1. Chet in a Suit

Up until recently, I hadn’t photographed a lot of men. So I asked my friend Robert to be a male model for me in a little experiment and so I could get some practice. Before I make myself stop working and go to bed, I wanted to post at least one from our shoot. I love it. It’s super outside of my wheelhouse and it’s exciting. More of Chet soon.

I really wish I didn’t have to go to bed.

  2. Weeks ago I took the beautiful Eliza Lynn out for a photo session in a field. I had borrowed this vintage dress from my friend Terri and had been dying to use it. Then suddenly I met Eliza, with her haunting eyes. I knew the two were a match.

I have so many more pictures from our little fashion session in the field. This was actually the last outfit we did right at sunset. More of Eliza to come!

  3. Happy! Sad…

My 4 year old’s ability to tolerate her picture being taken only lasts so long.

  4. Not Enough Hours in the Day

So I’ve shot a TON of fun stuff just for me and now the busy season has picked up and I have 0 time to work on any of it. Promises, promises…

  5. Part of my goals for the year was to put myself out there more for publishing. This is my submission for CHIC Magazine’s monthly photo contest. The magazine is published by the lovely ladies at the CHIC Critique Forum, a great resource for female photographers, especially those interested in that fashion flair, like myself!

I took this photo late last year as part of my series called The Black Dress Project. I wanted to see if I could construct a dress and shoot it, inspired by Sue Bryce’s latest workshop on CreativeLIVE. The bodice of the dress is a corset I found at a thrift store. The skirt I constructed of tulle, chiffon, blanket ribbon and a clip on flower I got from the crafting store. Voila! Couture dress!

    Wish me luck!

  6. Favorite Question of the Week

    1. My clients: Your job must be pretty cool, huh?
    2. Me: It really, really is.

  8. I’ve been getting more interested in working with textures and illustration lately. I can’t draw to save my life, but hoping to achieve something like it with pictures. For these I used Jessica Drossin’s textures. I’m such a fan of her work. Hoping to keep going with this series.

  9. The Many Faces of Kevin.

I wanted to be a photographer the minute I discovered Mark Seliger. I was about 17 and I had just come off of a semester long dark room class at my high school. Mark Seliger’s new coffee table book came out, Physiognomy: The Mark Seliger Photographs and I had to have it. It was an $80 coffee table book. I didn’t have a coffee table. I didn’t have 80 bucks. So I don’t even know how I acquired it but I did and still have it.

So he was my first inspiration. I love the way he captures the subject’s personality in the photos. Like, you don’t even have to have met the person but you can already tell who they are when you see them.

Kevin is my husband and though you may not know him, I think you do now.
